The new issue of the newsletter of the NADIR project has been released, featuring a Guide on National and International 3Rs Centres.

Accessing international sources of good alternatives tools and data can be an important part of applying the 3Rs.

Currently there are limited internet resources available for identifying the 3Rs centers across Europe and globally, therefore NADIR has developed a List of international 3Rs Centres as a resource for researchers working in large animal experimentation.

The new issue of the newsletter of the NADIR project has been released, featuring:

  • NADIR Annual Meeting 2012: The NADIR annual meeting 2012 (months 38 of the project) was held on the small Island of Vilm in the Baltic Sea, in proximity to the larger Island of Rügen, Germany
  • “Animal Use in Research and the new EU Directive”: The Animal Use in Research and the new EU Directive Conference, addressed the ethical, legal and scientific issues raised by the new EU Directive (2010/63/EU) on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes.
  • Highlighting the Value of the ARRIVE Guidelines: Developed by the UK NC3Rs, the ARRIVE guidelines aim to improve the reporting of animal experimentations to ensure the data can be fully evaluated and utilised by other animal researchers.
  • Transnational Access projectsCall for Proposals: NADIR invites the Research Community to bid for funding to carry out projects within the facilities participating in the network.

“Animal Use in Research and the new EU Directive” Conference Briefing

Northumbria UniversityThe Animal Use in Research and the new EU Directive Conference, held in Newcastle, UK (June 2012) addressed the ethical, legal and scientific issues raised by the new EU Directive (2010/63/EU) on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes. This new legislation, which must be implemented in the UK by 1 January 2013[1], has the potential to shape attitudes towards the use of animals in research.

NADIR: Pharmacological Refinement and Humane End Points Workshop

One day Workshop on Pharmacological Refinement and Humane End Points, organised within the NADIR Project, will be held at the University of Nottingham – Centre for Applied Bioethics (UK) on Thursday 15th November 2012.

The meeting will take place at the University of Nottingham City Campus (University Park). The event will be held at the University’s East Midlands Conference Centre and rooms have been reserved at the associated hotel (5 minutes walk from the venue).
