NADIR-Newsletter06NADIR – The Network of Animal Disease Infectiology Research Facilities

The new issue of the newsletter of the NADIR project has been released, featuring a Guide on National and International 3Rs Centres.

Accessing international sources of good alternatives tools and data can be an important part of applying the 3Rs.

Currently there are limited internet resources available for identifying the 3Rs centers across Europe and globally, therefore NADIR has developed a List of international 3Rs Centres as a resource for researchers working in large animal experimentation.

Emerging Infectious Diseases: 9th Louis Pasteur Conference

23 Oct

Pasteur-Conference

The 9th Louis Pasteur Conference: Emerging Infectious Diseases will be held in Paris (France) on April 9-11, 2014.

The Institut Pasteur has always been at the frontier of emerging infectious disease discovery and the 2008 Nobel Price of Medicine and Physiology is a living proof of the continuous effort the institution has devoted to emerging infectious diseases since its creation 125 years ago. Nevertheless, a few decades ago, emerging infectious diseases were not the subject of interest they are today. In the last decade, however, the landscape has changed, witnessed by the resurgence or emergence of new infectious diseases. This has led to increased institutional support of research in this area that has not only improved public health but has also provided a better understanding of the scope of the problem. Sharing and disseminating this recent knowledge within the scientific community is essential.

The conference will gather a broad range of participants: senior scientists, young investigators and students working in bacterial, parasitic and viral emerging diseases as well as dedicated sessions on vectors and on the impact of climate change in epidemics.

DEADLINES

  • Early Registration: up to March 3, 2014
  • Deadline for abstract submission: February 3rd, 2014 (Midnight, CET)

NADIR Annual Meeting - venue sqThe NADIR Annual Meeting 2012 (months 38 of the project) was held on the small Island of Vilm in the Baltic Sea, in proximity to the larger Island of Rügen, Germany.  All NADIR partner institutes except for one, whose scientists were attending another scientific meeting at the same time, were represented by at least one participant, adding up to 28 NADIR partner attendees. Fortunately, also five external members of the NADIR executive committee were able to attend, enabling a direct scientific exchange between the NADIR partners and the external experts.
